Expired means the payment opportunity lapsed before the buyer completed it. It applies to transactions with a validity period: cash references, bank transfer references, payment links with a deadline, and Checkout sessions left open too long. No money moved.
Why a transaction expires
- Every cash or bank transfer payment reference has a validity period set when it's generated.
- Payment links can be created with a deadline; once it's reached, they stop accepting payments.
- Online payment sessions expire for security if the buyer doesn't finish.
What you can do
- Generate a new payment option: expired transactions can't be reactivated. Create a new reference or a new link and share it with the buyer.
- Adjust the validity period: if your buyers tend to take their time paying, set longer validity periods when creating the reference or link.
- Send a reminder before it expires: a reminder one day before the reference expires recovers many sales.
Possible next status
Expired is a final status. The new reference or link creates a separate transaction that starts its own lifecycle in Pending.
