Interest-free installments (MSI) let your customer pay for a purchase in monthly installments with their credit card, without paying interest. You receive the sale amount according to your normal payout schedule; the financing is covered by the issuing bank.
What the customer sees
When paying with a participating credit card, the customer sees the available installment options — for example 3, 6, 9, or 12 months — and chooses the one they prefer. Their bank splits the charge into equal installments on their statement.
Eligibility
- Only applies to credit cards from participating banks; debit cards aren't eligible.
- Each term usually requires a minimum purchase amount: the longer the term, the higher the minimum.
- Your account must have the MSI promotion enabled; you can choose which terms to offer.
Costs
"Interest-free" applies to the customer. For the business, offering MSI carries a surcharge on top of the regular card payment fee, which increases with the term. The exact percentages for your account are in your contract and in the Conekta Panel — see Where to check my account's fees.
When do I receive my money if the customer pays over 12 months?
You receive the sale according to your normal payout schedule, minus fees. The issuing bank is the one that finances the customer's monthly installments.
Can I offer MSI only for certain amounts?
Yes. Each term has a minimum amount, and you can decide which terms to enable, for example only 3 and 6 months for mid-size purchases.
What happens if the customer requests a refund?
The refund is processed for the applicable amount and the issuing bank adjusts the customer's remaining installments. The MSI surcharge may not be refundable; check your fee structure.
